After much contemplation, we searched for a place where our regular customers at our flagship Hachi restaurant in Singapore could enjoy a lively and casual evening reminiscent of the traditional izakayas in Japan.

Our search yielded no results, so we decided to take matters into our own hands and opened the Public Izakaya in 2013 at 100 Tras Street. Our goal was to create a friendly and traditional izakaya that serves authentic cuisine for everyday salarymen.

While the concept was simple, execution proved challenging then and now. We meticulously crafted menus that would transport our customers to the heart of Shimbashi & Yurakucho in Tokyo, where the highest concentration of izakayas exists. Our ingredients are carefully procured and curated to achieve the unique taste of Japan that we are known for.

We regularly scoured antique markets to add izakaya memorabilia to our extensive collection displayed in the restaurant. An extensive list of sake, shochu, and other Japanese beverages completed our concept. Our obsession is to deliver the experience as it should be, using fine quality ingredients not typical of a casual eatery.

Today, with our sister outlet, the Public Izakaya 2, located just 80 meters away at 16 Enggor Street, Hachi Group is proud to bring the largest Japanese izakaya operations to Singapore with over 240 seats available combined. A team of passionate chefs, including five native Japanese chefs, operate our outlets in Tanjong Pagar, Singapore.

At the Public Izakaya by Hachi, we strive to deliver the best izakaya experience possible outside of Japan.
