Chin Sin Huan 振新园 (zhèn xīn yúan) is the coffee shop first opened by our grandfather in the 1960s.Located in the heart of Tanjong Rhu, it has been serving coffee and toast for as long as we can remember.Growing up in the same neighbourhood, we have always loved the coffeeshop’s name and how it sounded.But more significant was what it meant to us.振: to brace up, to stir oneself to action; 新: fresh, new ideas; 园: garden, orchard, a land to grow in abundance.It was in that coffee shop our father learnt the art of making pau. It wasn’t easy.The pau was handmade and plenty of hard work was put in.Only the freshest quality ingredients were used.All these efforts paid off – the pau was well received by the neighbours and grew to become synonymous with Tanjong Rhu.
